Lot 6:
Fine Persian Qum (Ghom) Silk ‘Mihrab’ Wall Hanging – 120 x 160cm – Vintage Patina
Description
A Masterpiece in Silk. An exquisite example of Persian weaving from the holy city of Qum, this hand-knotted silk carpet is a testament to classical Islamic artistry. Originally commissioned and utilized as a prestigious wall hanging, the piece has been preserved from the typical wear of floor use.
Design & Motif: The carpet features a central Mihrab (Prayer Arch) motif, housing a delicate hanging lamp (chandelier) over a "Vase of Life." The intricate floral borders are executed in a regal palette of deep garnet, champagne, and cream.
Condition & Aesthetic: As is common with pieces displayed in sun-drenched South African homes, this carpet features a soft, natural sun-bleached transition on the lower half. Far from a detraction, this creates a muted, antique-wash aesthetic that softens the high-contrast silk sheen, making it an ideal "Distressed Luxury" piece for contemporary or classical interiors.
Origin: Qum (Ghom), Iran
Material: Natural Silk on Foundation
Dimensions: 120cm x 160cm
Mounting: Previously used as wall décor; structural integrity is excellent.
