Lot 26:
A Pair of Continental White Metal Figurines Depicting a Man and Woman with Baskets
Description
A pair of cast white metal figurines with a dark grey patina and silver-toned surface finish. The two figures are mounted on integral, stepped, hexagonal bases. The male figure is depicted in mid-stride wearing a cap, jacket, and trousers tucked into boots, carrying a tall, cylindrical basket with a relief-moulded woven texture. The female figure wears a headscarf, shawl, and long skirt, holding a wide, handled oval basket with a matching woven texture. The underside of the bases feature polished surfaces. Each base bears an impressed mark consisting of the digits 88. Adjacent to these digits is a stamped shield-shaped heraldic mark containing a double-headed eagle device beneath indiscernible characters. The digits 88 are consistent with zolotnik silver purity standards.
